" Even though they were very busy, having a wine tasting and a fashion show, the service (our waiter, John, was very attentive - although he seemed to be the only server working)was wonderful and the food was superb. I thoroughly enjoyed the halibut special last evening. My husband had the mango pork tenderloin and friends enjoyed the fried ribs and suhsi tuna.
The bottle of wine recommended by John was perfect.
Ophelia's is one of the top restaurants on our list of favorites in KC.

"The food was very good, as was the service.
The menu was somewhat in flux, bringing on new dishes for the fall season. We were seated in a lovely little curved booth, and the location in charming downtown Independence is welcoming and surprisingly elegant, if lacking in classical design . The wine list, while limited,
possesses some interesting options, as does the menu, although I'd like to see more by way of first courses. To the order:
I started with the Scallops, which were well prepared but only slightly bland. The Mrs had a lovely blue cheese salad, which she liked. She followed with what turned out to be a magnificent steak, while I enjoyed the seafood platter, which, while fairly ordinary in scheme, was delicious, as was a lovely strawberry shortcake desert.
On a service note, I usually expect suburban service to be somewhere between barely competent and horrible, but a few minutes into this particular evening, I suddenly realized that the service was perfect. Ever detail covered, a considerable
knowledge of both wine and food, correct silverware manners, no grabbing of plates..." |

"The food was very good, as was the service.
I would have rated it higher, but the online menu for this restaurant is NOT the menu that was at the restaurant. In seeing the online menu, I had a mindset for what I wanted for dinner. Unfortunately, it was not there. The online menu (as of 07/13/07) is Italian, whereas the actual menu is more American Bistro.

"Ophelia's
is where we went to dinner the evening my husband proposed to
me. We just celebrated our 2nd anniversary and of course had to
return to Ophelia's. The waiter was absolutely wonderful -
attentive but not over-bearing like some restaurants. The food
was (as usual) superb. I had requested the same table that we
had the night he proposed - and they accommodated perfectly!
We'll be back!" |

food and service was great. The atmosphere was excellent as well
as the decor. I have eaten at many fine restaurants as well as
Emeril LaGosi's, this is even better than I expected. My wife
and I ate at The Cafe Verona about two months ago and Ophelia's
atmosphere was very romantic. Although I would recommend either
restaurant." |

"Fabulous food (the type of food I love,
and attempt to cook at home, but not even close to the flavor of
the meals we were served. Our waiter was wonderful - not too
attentive but around when we needed him and very well informed
Original artwork by the owner made the atmosphere even more
special. Being new to the area, but wanting to
celebrate our 25th Anniversary at a special place, we "took a
chance" and are so glad we did. We'll be back!" |

"FAB-U-LOUS!!!!
Todd was our waiter...a fantastic man-and so helpful. I would go
back again! The cheese tasting appetizer was very good. The sea
bass and mixed grill featured dinners were wonderful and the dessert
was great as well. The creme brulee was so good. One of my best
experiences. Definitely worth the price for a nice evening out." |
